Preparing for your e-session photo shoot
One week before your shoot
- Be sure to take care of all hair removal prior to a shoot, but leave at least 2-3 days between when you wax/shave any sensitive areas (such as your eyebrows) and your shoot date. This time is necessary to allow for any irritation to disappear before your shoot.
- It is not necessary, but if you wish you may workout and tone your body a week and then 3 days before your shoot.
- It is not uncommon that eyes unused to natural light may become irritated even in overcast conditions. As long it does not affect your safety, start limiting the amount of time you wear sunglasses. It will allow your eyes to adjust to sunlight and you will be less likely to squint during the shoot.
- If you plan on showing your smile, be sure that your teeth are ready for prime-time. If your teeth are discolored, you may want to consider having them cleaned/whitened. Avoid coffee and anything else that could stain your teeth.
72 hours before your shoot
- Be sure you have found out all the necessary details about your shoot. You should know where you're supposed to go, the easiest & fastest way to get there, and what you need to do to prepare for your shoot.- You should also have a good idea of what items you are going to bring to your shoot.
24 hours before your shoot
- Eat healthy. Drink plenty of water. Avoid fatty, greasy, and salty foods prior to shooting. Please avoid alcohol or anything that will make you puffy or bloated. Also avoid anything that may stain your teeth.
- If you have not yet called me to confirm your appointment, please do so.
- Pack up what you'll need at least the night prior to your appointment so you are not rushing around in the time before leaving for your shoot.
- It is also important that you get a good night's sleep. You will not only feel better, but you will look better if you are well rested and energetic on the day of your shoot.
- If the shoot is in late afternoon you are more than welcome to take a mid-day “beauty nap.” Just make sure your alarm clock is set to wake you up early enough to give you time to prepare.
The day of your shoot
- In the event that something unexpected happens and you are going to be late, please call me.
- In order to maximize your time to shoot, arriving and being ready on time is important. Unless otherwise arranged, couples are encouraged to arrive up to, but no more than, 20 minutes early.
- Please eat a light meal before you leave. Food is fuel and if you skip your meals before shooting, chances are you'll run out of energy, lose focus, or become irritable. None of which will improve your photos.
- Please bring bottled water, snacks, and anything else necessary to keep you going.
- To avoid squinting due to sunlight, please do not wear sunglasses prior to your shoot.
Ideas for pictures
Oftentimes, a pre-existing photograph may provide an inspiration for a new one. Couples are encouraged to share any photographs they've come across (online, in magazines, etc) that they find interesting, inspiring, or both. You can do so by emailing those photos, linking to web pages with photos, sharing a Pinterest board or by bringing in magazines that have photos you find inspiring. It is best to let me know about those photos at least a few days prior to your shoot date so that any necessary preparations can be made ahead of time. It’s not really about replicating the photograph. Many ideas can be found by simply paying attention to the pose, what a person in the photo may be wearing, any props that are used in the photo, the location where the photo was shot, and any effects used in the shot (if any).
Things to consider
- You're not twins, so please avoid matching your clothes. A matching fashion style is perfectly fine and expected, but if you both wear the infamous "white-tshirt-and-blue-jeans" it will make you look like siblings. Your clothing should reflect your personal style and provide you with comfort and confidence. If you're feeling self-conscious in the clothes you've picked, then it is probably a good idea to pick something else. If you're planning to wear a brand new pair of shoes for the photo shoot, please consider wearing them a few times before (blisters are no fun and that discomfort can show in the pictures).
- Please, avoid clothing with busy print patterns, large logos or text. These things distract and take away the attention from the two of you.
- If you have young children who will be included in the photo shoot, please make sure to also arrange for the assistance of someone who would be responsible for watching over the kids. (The same would need to apply to the presence of pets during the shoot).
Length of a shoot
I like to shoot for a minimum of one to two hours, but the actual length of a shoot is generally dictated by whom I'm working with and that is often determined by the number of wardrobe changes, locations, specific goal of a shoot, and physical condition of a person (be rested).
What to expect after your photo shoot
Often within three weeks after your engagement/date shoot I will sort your photos and then send them to you by means of a digital download. You will also have the opportunity to order print products.
Feel free to contact me at any time.
